This was my first real trip to Wakonda. I stopped by on the way home from Madison, Wisconsin, several years ago, but only had time to eat lunch.
This is a great park. I loved the sand prairie and was thrilled with the insect observations. Watching the group of Bembix wasps dig nests was great. I'd never seen one of the robber flies in the genus Proctacanthus before. And it was the first time I was able to get photographs of an ovipositing Bee Fly, although I had seen one oviposit before this.
Because my progress is really slow while taking photos, I only walked the Peninsula Trail, the Quartz Lake Trail, and part of the Agate Lake Trail.
