Many schools and home-schoolers in mid-Missouri take field trips to Rock Bridge Memorial State Park and to Runge Conservation Nature Center. Lists of insects which can be found along trails in these two publicly-owned areas are available in pdf form.
How to Recognize 12 Common Groups of Insects
In October 2006, I started a blog discussing the insects and insect behavior that I observe while out taking photos. Occasionally I report interesting insect facts that I've just come across reading.

The checklists longer than 2 pages are designed to be printed double-sided and folded into brochures. (The first text column is the 1st column on page 2).
Checklists were compiled from my own observations. I expect to update the pdf files at least annually.

I received permission from the Journal of the Kansas Entomological Society to post a list of Treehoppers of Missouri from a 4 part article by Dennis D. Kopp and Thomas R. Yonke, 1973-74. The scientific names have been adjusted to reflect current taxonomy according to Nomina Insecta Nearctica.
I put together these notes on identifying damselflies in Missouri and use them to id the damselflies in my photos. This page also includes a checklist of Missouri damselflies put together by Linden Trial, Missouri Department of Conservation.

I put several CDs I own onto an iPod which is easier to take out on a trail and quickly play a species for identification by sound. My iPod contains several bird song CDs, and the MDC insect CD. I put together a list of steps to put birdsong CDs you own onto your iPod. Some of the tracks on the Peterson Bird Song CDs should be separated so each bird is listed separately on your playlists. Even if you already know how to get the CDs onto an iPod, you might find my list of tracks and the point at which each should be separated useful.
